During my first year working at prestigious Scottish school, George Watson's College, I was selected and commissioned for a portrait of the principal, Gareth Edwards, who would be retiring at the end of the 2013/14 session. Traditionally, each retiring principal would have their portrait painted by an established artist, and these paintings were hung in the assembly hall with their predecessors' portraits. In the course of his last year at GWC, Mr Edwards decided to push this long-standing practise into the modern day, and chose to have his portrait taken by a photographer. The photograph is now hanging at the front of the assembly hall with the previous principal's paintings, and will remain there for years to come.
The frame it is hung in was commissioned and hand-made by the framers at Bourne Fine Art Gallery in Edinburgh.
